The Collective

Our collective is made up of three initiatives; The Art of Afrika Fellowship, The Sociology of Design, and The Craft of Art Gallery . These three branches of our organisation support our core goal of simplifying the complex.

The Art of Afrika Fellowship is a nine-month programme supporting emerging African artists, designers, and researchers to develop ambitious ideas, deepen their practices, and contribute to new conversations around art, design, society, technology, and culture.

Fellows are supported to develop and see through a project of their own making—whether an artwork, design intervention, research project, publication, digital experience, cultural programme, or other creative practice. Alongside their project, fellows engage in research, participate in conferences and convenings, and share their thinking through research reports and other public outputs.

The fellowship is grounded in the belief that emerging practitioners should not only be given space to create, but also the resources, networks, mentorship, and platforms to develop their ideas and make them visible. Fellows become part of a multidisciplinary cohort, connecting with peers, mentors, thinkers, artists, designers, and organisations across Africa and beyond. Through the fellowship, Art of Afrika Collective seeks to support a new generation of African women who are questioning dominant narratives, experimenting across disciplines, and creating new ways of understanding and shaping the world around them.
